This post will involve researching personal family histories on behalf of our clients, using documentary and computerised sources (both online and offline). The time span involved can range from the twentieth century to seventeenth-century studies.
The research work will be undertaken mainly at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI), although some time will be spent in the Foundation’s office and in other local archives and libraries.
Research results will be presented to clients in the form of interpretative reports. These will explain the research process, analyse findings, draw conclusions and include bibliographical and source references.
In conjunction with full-time employees of the Foundation, the Genealogical Researchers will contribute to the smooth operation of the Foundation’s genealogical research service.
There may also be opportunities for data input and validation as part of the Foundation’s role in compiling databases of genealogical records for our members and the general public.
In addition, genealogical researchers may be asked to assist during the Foundation’s regular family history conferences (usually week-long, 2 to 3 times a year held at PRONI), where the Foundation’s team accompany delegates to the archive and assist them with archival research as they seek to learn more about their ancestors.
