The cost of commissioning our research team to carry out a specific research request on your behalf costs £270 (VAT is applicable for UK/EU clients)
Specific Research consists of six hours of archival research and can include:
- A search through a particular church register or workhouse register (where the client has already identified a likely church or workhouse) or
- An examination of a rental or leasebook for a particular landed estate (where the client has already identified a likely estate collection) or
- A search within civil birth, marriage or death records for one individual
Undertaken by our team of researchers, Specific Research normally requires 8–10 weeks to complete, but can on occasion take longer due to particular factors arising from the research. You will be advised of any delays and the reasons for them. If your submission is urgent, please note that we do offer a fast-track service (dependent on staff scheduling) for an additional fee. Please email enquiry@uhf.org.uk for more information.
The final report will consist of details of the document(s) examined and any findings. Due to the nature of specific research, the report is generally much shorter than our full Family History Report.
After completing the form below, you will then be directed to our checkout area where you can confirm your Specific Research request.
Once the necessary research has been completed and the findings have been analysed by our researchers, you will then receive a digital summary of the findings.
If you would prefer to have a hard copy of this report you can indicate this in the booking form below. There will be an additional charge to receive a hard copy and our Membership and Research Secretary will be able to advice on costs after your initial submission.
Note: VAT is applicable for UK and EU based clients
Since the Foundation’s primary expertise in research concerns the nine counties of the historic province of Ulster (Antrim, Armagh, Cavan, Derry/Londonderry, Donegal, Down, Fermanagh, Monaghan, Tyrone), the vast majority of the archival research we undertake is carried out in the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI).
If you are interested in archival research for a county that falls outside province of Ulster, please email enquiry@uhf.org.uk for advice before commissioning research online.
