Editorial Services | Ulster Historical Foundation

The Foundation offers bespoke editorial services to corporate bodies and individuals wishing to publish a book or booklet, or create a website. Our services include copy-editing, proof-reading and indexing. We also source suitable illustrations from repositories across the world.

Working with talented designers and trusted printers we ensure that the publication is visually attractive and produced to a high standard.

The Foundation had brought its expertise in publishing to a number of projects in recent years. These have included substantial, multi-essay volumes, to publications authored by some of our members.

One of the Foundation's most ambitious publications of the recent past is Lough Neagh: An Atlas of the Natural, Built and Cultural Heritage (2021). Bringing together archaeologists, geographers, historians, scientists and other experts in their field, many with a strong connection to Lough Neagh, this beautifully illustrated volume includes 50 essays which explore the diversity of interactions between the people of the lough and the natural, cultural and built environment from the earliest times to the present day.

The Foundation's Research Director, Dr William Roulston worked alongside Dr William Burke and Dr Liam Campbell of Lough Neagh Partnership to collate the individual contributions, carry out copy-editing and proofing, source relevant illustrations, and liaise with the designer, Wendy Dunbar, to produce a high-quality publication on a vast body of water – the largest lake in these islands – which has been likened to an inland sea.

Between 2005 and 2014 the Foundation acted as production agent for Irish Historical Studies. Published by Irish Historical Society and the Ulster Society for Irish Historical Studies, this journal is the premier academic history journal in Ireland.

As production agents and distributors, we have assisted some of our members to realise their ambitions by publishing an account of their families histories. Examples include Fultons of the Lagan Valley in Ireland by Trevor Fulton (2009) and Never to be Heard From Again! Searching for the McCurrys of Myroe by Frances Bach (2019). In 2014 we helped Freda Bingley (née Waddell) publish her ‘personal odyssey’, as she called it, into her family tree: The Waddells of Ireland: a Genealogical Resource.
