Document Retrieval

Most document retrieval enquiries will be no more than 2 hours (minimum 1 hour), and cost £45 per hour (£40 for Guild Members).

A deposit of £45 (based on the minimum time our researchers will spend in the archives) is required before work commences and your balance will need to be paid in full before you receive the information from your request.

Some examples of the documents we can retrieve include:

From the General Register Office Northern Ireland (GRONI): birth certificates less than 100 years old, death certificates less than 50 years old and marriage certificates less than 75 years old.

From Public Record Office Northern Ireland (PRONI): church records, school records, workhouse records original Griffith’s Valuation maps, and estate papers such as leases, maps, rentals etc.

In some instances, certain repositories also offer a similar service to our own Document Retrieval. An idea of their fees can be found below:

There may be additional charges that relate to direct costs incurred by the Foundation to fulfil your retrieval request. These may include:

• Costs of examining birth, marriage and death records through GRONI’s in-house computer system
• Reproduction surcharges, if required, charged by specific archives. At present GRONI may place a surcharge between £8-£15 for original certificate reproduction.

The Foundation will be fully transparent and will provide a full summary relating to any additional charges that are added to the final balance.
