‘Hotchpotch Bill’ was the English term for a general tidying-up act. Statutes were often passed for a limited period and then made permanent, extended, amended or dropped. Statute extensions could be extensions of a single statute, but more often a number of statutes on disparate subjects would be gathered together and extended in a block.
