Other sourcesVolume kept by Rev. William Bredin, curate of Sallaghy, a district formed from the parish of Galloon c. 1840, but he seems to have had wider responsibilities for Galloon (D2098/3); the volume contains a household census arranged alphabetically by townland for the parish of Galloon, including the village of Newtownbutler, c. 1847–c. 1849; it also contains material relating to local relief efforts during this period, including ‘Accounts of Tullyreagh Soup Shop’ (March-May 1847); names and addresses of those to whom Indian meal was distributed on 24 May 1847; and a list of applicants for clothing, Newtownbutler, 1848.

NotesThe network of parishes in the area straddling the boundary between counties Fermanagh and Monaghan has a particularly complex history. The parish of Galloon in the early 1700s was almost entirely within County Monaghan. In the course of the eighteenth century the parishes of Aghabog, Currin, Ematris and Killeevan were created out of it. The present parish of Galloon was created in the early nineteenth century. The area now covered by Galloon included a portion of the pre-1800 parish of Drummully, including the site of the parish church in Newtownbutler. See J.B. Leslie, Clogher Clergy and Parishes (1929), pp 273–8, for more information. It should be clear, therefore, that research in this area is not without its difficulties. The sources listed concern primarily the parish of Galloon as constituted in the early 1800s. However, if looking for ancestors from Galloon, researchers should also consult records for the following parishes: Aghabog, Currin, Drummully, Ematris and Killeevan.
