III, c. 3 in lieu of duties £2,635, funds insufficient for canals under way, 4 per cent debentures expedient for existing schemes/ £20,000 Barrow, £8,300 Shannon, £57,100 plus £10,000 Grand Canal; also £66,000 Royal Canal, £12,500 Drogheda-Trim canal; also £4,000 Newry, £2,400 plus £3,300 Kildare canal, £5,100 Belturbet-Lough Erne canal, total £188,700; demand in any one year up to £25,000, lord lieutenant can order further debentures up to £10,000, no debenture to be issued unless subscriber has spent twice sum, intention two-thirds private to one-third public money, one-tenth subscription to be deposited with Bank of Ireland; if government securities depositor gets interest; canal companies to compensate mills or bleach grounds - water changes; all debentures £100 each, not to exceed 2,000 (i.e. £200,000) [cm]
