An Act for amending and reducing into one Act of Parliament the Laws relating to the Militia in Ireland.
Classification
Militia consolidation and organisation - Lt-Col. Commandant to be appointed for every county, to have income of £2,000 p.a. or be heir to £3,000 p.a., no Commandant to serve for more than one county, Commandant to appoint officers, militia officers to be propertied, Lt-Col. £1,200 or heir to £1,800 p.a., Major £300 or heir to £600 p.a., similarly for other ranks, lists numbers for each county e. g. Kerry 488, Down 770, men chosen by ballot and enrolled to serve for four years, approved substitutes likewise enrolled for four years, those chosen by ballot refusing to serve or provide substitutes to be fined £10 and remain liable for selection, lists exemptions - those in forces, clergymen, seamen, fathers of three living children; counties where number of men sufficient to be formed into one or more regiment, regiment = 8-12 companies of 50-100 men, battalion = fewer than 8 companies, sample muster roll, able-bodied militia man not attending punished as deserter under Mutiny Act, restricted to Ireland, wages of all ranks [se]
