Description

An Act for granting to His Majesty His Heirs and Successors certain Duties and Rates upon the Portage and Conveyance of all Letters and Packets within this Kingdom.

Revenue - Post Office, organisation etc. as in previous acts, 25 oz = a single letter, Dublin 1d post otherwise as per distance, single letter 15 miles, 2d; 15-30 miles, 3d; 30-50 miles, 4d; 50-80 miles, 5d; 80+ miles, 6d; reduced rate for samples, lists officers entitled to free post - Lord Lieutenant, Chief Secretary, Secretary of State, Ulster and Munster Secretaries, Under-Secretary and First Clerk for civil and military departments, Secretary of GPO, Comptroller of Sorting Office and Surveyors, Muster documents; affidavits from out-pensioners of Royal Hospital, forging signatures etc. first fines and then felony, post free from tolls and to be expedited, four-wheel carriages carrying mail to be tolled quarterly, letters coming into Ireland pay from port of entry, papers without covers or open at the sides 1d, no postage charges for members of armed forces [rv]
