Greetings,

It is not often that the President, Chair and Vice-Chair of the Ulster Historical Foundation would contact you directly, but in this instance, we believe the opportunity is too important not to reach out.

The charity has received some potentially excellent news.

Two anonymous donors have pledged to support us by matching donations, dollar-for-dollar, up to a maximum of $50,000. The generosity of this gesture is breathtaking and exciting, and could provide myriad possibilities for developing the Foundation, our resources and how we serve family and local historians.

Big Ask Image

The power of match-funding to be able to transform the fortunes and therefore the future direction of any charity cannot be overstated. Put simply, for a small educational non-profit and self-funding registered charity, such as ours, such opportunities do not come along very often.

But to benefit from this unique (for us) offer of support, we need to be successful in our fundraising. We would like to ask if you would be willing to support our campaign?

The Foundation is on the cusp of reaching its 70th anniversary (in 2026) and this moment is conceivably one of the most important in decades for the future of this organisation.

Your generosity and that of the match-funders could make it possible for us to reframe our strategic planning for the next five years with quite exceptional projects that will have an immense, positive impact on the research community.

The Senior Management Team has outlined where the donations might be invested and how, in turn, these activities will be to the advantage of members, supporters and wider society, at home and abroad.

We hope you will consider giving a financial gift to the Foundation, an organisation that is unique in the UK and Ireland.

Kind regards

His Grace the Duke of Abercorn KG, President of Ulster Historical Foundation

Sir Denis Desmond KCVO, CBE , Chair of Ulster Historical Foundation

John G. Gordon DL, Vice-Chair of Ulster Historical Foundation

What will we do with the money raised?
