Title: Names of claimants for compensation in Counties Antrim and Down after the 1798 Rebellion
Description: Returns exist for a number of Irish counties, including Antrim and Down, concerning those who suffered losses in the 1798 Rebellion and who had submitted claims for compensation by 6 April 1799. The information in the returns is provided under the following headings: Claimant’s name, Addition (usually occupation or status), Residence, County in which they reside, Place where loss was sustained, Nature of loss, and Amount claimed. This database is an index of the names for Antrim and Down, giving Surname, Forename, Addition and Residence. The geographical distribution of the names is aligned closely with those areas most affected by the rebellion. Therefore, for County Antrim, many of the names relate to Randalstown and adjoining townlands, while for County Down the town of Ballynahinch features prominently.
