Title: Loyal Address of the High Sheriff, Justices of the Peace, Freeholders of Co. Donegal
Date: 1682
Description: Drawn up at Lifford on 4 May 1682, this was one of a number of loyal declarations sent to the King at this time. In the previous month, the sheriff, justices of the peace and grand jury of County Down issued an address declaring that they were prepared to ‘serve and Defend your Majestye, your Heirs, and all lawfull Successors, and Religion as now established by law amongst us’ (Huntington Library, California, HA 15010). See also copies of addresses to the King from the grand juries of various counties, and from the corporations of towns, 1682–3 (National Library of Ireland, MS 11,960).]
Source: The following list of names was found in LDS FHL Film #258502 where it was identified as being from Box 11 of the Tenison Groves Manuscripts in the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (T808). The original document was copied by Groves from the since destroyed Council Office Collection in the old Public Record Office of Ireland in Dublin.
