Title: Churchwardens of Donaghcloney parish, County Down
Date: 1694–1898
Description: This database includes a list of those who held the office of churchwarden in Donaghcloney parish in north-west County Down from the late seventeenth century through to the end of the nineteenth century. Churchwardens were the principal parish officers, responsible for ensuring that the money entrusted to them was spent correctly. There were two in each parish and they were elected on an annual basis, although one man could hold the post for several years at a time. The names for the years 1694–1754 were copied from an old list attached to the vestry book. There is a gap in the records for the years 1755–69 inclusive. From 1770 onwards the address of the churchwarden is usually given.
