Title: Marriages in Downpatrick in the eighteenth century
Description: Aynsworth Pilson (1766-1859) was greatly interested in the genealogical history of the inhabitants of the town of Downpatrick and compiled lists of marriages and deaths in the area. He was a long-time vestry member of the parish church in Downpatrick and on discovering a plan of the pews of the church made in 1734–5, which named the occupants of the pews, he set about writing short biographies and genealogies of the pew owners. This was published as Memoirs of Downpatrick and its Parish Church in 1852. The lists of marriages and deaths are likely to have formed background research for this publication and are found in a transcribed form in the Linen Hall Library, Belfast. This source was first published in the Directory of Irish Family History Research, no. 43 (2020).
