Title: Listing of the Old Mills of Ireland
Date: 1832-1886
Description: This listing of the old mills of Ireland has been prepared from mid 19th-century Valuation Office documents. There is a separate section for each of the 32 counties, with the name of the townland in which each mill was situated, and the name of the proprietor or the miller who toiled there at this period.
This Guide to the Mills of Ireland was first published in a series of four volumes in which the account for each county is separately listed & indexed. For presenting us with this superb collection of useful technological and genealogical information on the old mills of Ireland and those who worked them, the product of many years of research, we are grateful to the late William E. Hogg, a longstanding member of the Foundation's Guild.
Mr Hogg passed away on 19 March 2024. He was an enthusiastic campaigner for industrial heritage. In addition to his work on mills, he wrote Smithies of Ireland of the 19th Century (2012) and Threads: From an Irish Backcloth Applying Particularly to the District of Lisburn (2012), an exploration of his family history.
