Title: A List of the Scots to be Transplanted from the Counties of Antrim and Down
Date: 1653
Description: Commissioners appointed ‘for settling and securing the province of Ulster’ in April 1653 concluded that ‘there is no visible expedient to preserve these parts in safety, but by transplanting all popular Scots into some other part of Ireland’. In the end the proposal was not put into effect.
This database includes the names of some 250 individuals in counties Antrim and Down, including a few men of English and Irish background, who were identified for transplantation. For the most part, these names are listed by ‘quarter’, i.e. ‘Six Mile Water Quarters’ and only rarely is a more precise address given for any of them.
