Title: Subsidy Roll of County Down
Date: 1663
Description: Subsidy rolls list those who were subject to the payment of subsidies, sanctioned by the Irish Parliament, which provided much needed revenue for the Crown. Transcripts of the subsidy rolls survive for most parishes in Ulster and record the name of the person paying the subsidy, his or her address, and the amount paid. The County Down list is all the more valuable because of the absence of a hearth money roll for that county.
