Description: This database is based on a valuation of the houses in Lurgan, Co. Armagh, found in the Shankill parish vestry minutes. There are some annotations on people listed by Dr W.H. Crawford, a noted authority on the history of Lurgan and a former Vice-Chairman of the Ulster Historical Foundation. The valuation is headed:
Valuation of the houses in the town of Lurgan for raising the sum of £20 under the Paving Act, and so to be used for the greater or smaller sums, the whole being divided into seven classes, the first class being rated at £10, the second at £8, the third at £6, the fourth at £4, the fifth at £2, the sixth at £1 and the seventh at 10s.; and the Rt. Hon. William Brownlow’s Mansion House rated as two houses at £10 each; and this is also intended to be the regulation for the Church cess of the houses in said town [Lurgan]. Valuation at 6d. in £1.
