Born in Winnipeg, Professor Sir George Bain had a long and distinguished career as an academic in the UK, including seven years as vice chancellor of Queen’s University Belfast. His many interests include genealogy and for nearly half a century he was active in pursuing his family history, eventually, in 2020, completing the production of nine volumes looking at different ancestral lines. He has been a long-time member and supporter of the Ulster Historical Foundation and served as a trustee of the organisation from 2017 to 2022. Prior to moving to Scotland in 2020, George made a very generous donation to the Foundation of his books on genealogy and Irish history.
