Synopsis

Familia: Ulster Genealogical Review is the journal of Ulster Historical Foundation's membership association (an historical research co-operative, known as the Ulster Genealogical and Historical Guild). Each year, in December, members receive Familia and a directory of their research interests, entitled Directory of Irish Family History Research. Non-members can purchase copies of these books. Since 1985, Familia has set a consistently high standard of balanced articles of wider historical and biographical importance, and providing all-important practical advice on sources for Irish family and local history in the nine-county province of Ulster. This issue of Familia, contains the following articles: 'Beatrice Lillie - Actress and Comedienne: The Story of Her Life' by Fred Rankin '"There is more Irish history slumbering in the rocks of Ballykeel than ever Belfast possessed." Family and community in Forkhill in the early-nineteenth century' by L.A. Clarkson 'The Original Spinsters - The role of women in the Ulster Domestic Linen Industry by Linde Lunney 'Scottish burial and commemoration practices in seventeenth century Ireland - the writings and memorials of William Montgomery of Rosemount 1633-1707' by William Roulston 'Passenger lists and other references to Irish immigrants from early Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware Newspapers' by Gary T. Hawbaker 'The Rev. Patrick Hamilton's family bible 1722-38' by Sandra A Millsopp 'Rashee Old Graveyard. County Antrim' by Paul Richmond "'...to regain a respectable place in society". Free Emigration to NSW before the Famine' by Perry McIntyre Reviews
