Synopsis

Familia: Ulster Genealogical Review is the journal of Ulster Historical Foundation's membership association (an historical research co-operative, known as the Ulster Genealogical and Historical Guild). Each year, in December, members receive Familia and a directory of their research interests, entitled Directory of Irish Family History Research. Non-members can purchase copies of these books. Since 1985, Familia has set a consistently high standard of balanced articles of wider historical and biographical importance, and providing all-important practical advice on sources for Irish family and local history in the nine-county province of Ulster. This issue of Familia, contains the following articles: 'The letters of Lieutenant Loftus Reade of Castletown, Co. Fermanagh 1881-1914' by David Ian Hamilton 'A dated phylogenetic tree of M222 snp haplotypes' by William E. Howard III and John D. McLaughlin 'Colleen Fitzpatrick - Forensic genealogy' by James Bartlett 'Welsh, Scottish and English settlement in County Monaghan in the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries' by William Roulston 'Birch families in Ulster - The search for a missing family link' by Bill Birch 'A census of Ulster Quakers 1650 to 1690' by Steven W. Morrison 'The cotton famine - Old Hickory and the Mary Edson, emigrant ships for America in 1863' F. Gilbert Watson '"Harboured here below" - The wreck of the Cambria 1870' by Paul Richmond 'Sir Crawford McCullagh - Belfast Merchant Prince' by David S. Cook Reviews
