Synopsis

Familia: Ulster Genealogical Review is the journal of Ulster Historical Foundation's membership association (an historical research co-operative, known as the Ulster Genealogical and Historical Guild). Each year, in December, members receive Familia and a directory of their research interests, entitled Directory of Irish Family History Research. Non-members can purchase copies of these books. Since 1985, Familia has set a consistently high standard of balanced articles of wider historical and biographical importance, and providing all-important practical advice on sources for Irish family and local history in the nine-county province of Ulster. This edition of Familia includes the following articles: 'Johnny Patterson: Balladeer and artistic muse, 1840-1889' by Richard McMinn 'The Agnews of Kilwaughter' by Jacqueline Haugseng-Agnew 'Women, war and welfare: The co-operative crusades of Margaret Taylor McCoubrey, 1880-1956' by Myrtle Hill 'The Sinclairs of Belfast and the United States: Transatlantic business networks in the Victorian era' by William Roulston 'The nun's curse by Charlotte Riddell: The Donegal land question and the nineteenth-century Irish Literary tradition' by Patrick Maume 'Sir Henry Wilson, 1864-1922: Soldier, Politician, Irishman' by David S. Cook 'Elizabeth Joyce Rivers, 1903-1964: An Irish artist of many talents' by Diane Egerton
