Synopsis

Familia: Ulster Genealogical Review is the journal of Ulster Historical Foundation's membership association (an historical research co-operative, known as the Ulster Genealogical and Historical Guild). Each year, in December, members receive Familia and a directory of their research interests, entitled Directory of Irish Family History Research. Non-members can purchase copies of these books. Since 1985, Familia has set a consistently high standard of balanced articles of wider historical and biographical importance, and providing all-important practical advice on sources for Irish family and local history in the nine-county province of Ulster. This edition of Familia includes the following articles: "Fields of Battle, Lands of Peace: The Doughboys, 1917-18" by Doran Cart "Glimpse of a Plantation Town: 1821 in Ballyhaise, County Cavan" by Steven M. Morrison "James Leech's 1763 passport unlocks family migration story: Ulster to Colonial America" by Mary Jane Kuffner Hirt "Memorialisation, settlement and identity in post-Plantation Ulster: Ardess old graveyard, County Fermanagh" by Eoin W. Parkinson and Eileen M. Murphy "An Ulster connection with medicine in the Gold Coast and the Spanish Civil War: The careers of David and Charles Duff" by Anthony Hart "Charles Cosslett's travel Diary: 1790s Ireland and Britain observed" by Hugh O'Neill "The story of the Polly Woodside - from Belfast to Melbourne: going aboard after 132 years" by James Bartlett "The Killyfaddy, County Armagh, connection to the House of York" by Alison Kilpatrick
