Synopsis

The Industrial Revolution was driven by coal, cotton, clay, canals, steam and iron. Remarkably, the County Tyrone town of Coalisland had all six. Forty years ago Sammy McKay began to research the history of his hometown. Conscious of the passage of time, he conducted interviews with his friends and neighbours, recording their memories of Coalisland in the early to mid-twentieth century. In the process an incredible record of an industrial town unlike any other on this island was preserved. These interviews have now been brought together and presented in book form for the first time. Sammy himself contributes the engrossing history of the Coalisland Weaving Factory, where he worked as Production Manager.
