FRIDAY FEATURE: Today I wanted to highlight our Research Library.

Our Library is an excellent resource for anyone conducting genealogical and historical research. We have a wide range of books and journals on many aspects of the history of Ireland and in particular the province of Ulster.

Our collections are particularly strong on genealogical research guides, printed and published family histories, and church, parish and congregational histories. We also have extensive collections of gravestone inscriptions, both published and unpublished, and books on migration and the diaspora.

We have received a number of generous donations of books over the years and are always grateful to be gifted additional publications which we can make available to researchers.

While we have been working hard in recent months to digitise and make available online any publications we can, the majority of our library collection is in hard-copy in the library.

Group in Library October 2023

Located at Kiltonga, Newtownards County Down, just 20 minutes from Belfast, the Research Library is open daily by appointment Monday to Friday (09:30-16:30). There is ample free parking onsite and free WiFi for visitors.

We enjoy welcoming local and overseas groups to our Library, so if you would like to visit us, please get in touch: email enquiry@uhf.org.uk or call 0044 28 9181 2073.

We also have a section of the website which is devoted to showcasing some of the more interesting items in our library catalogue and highlighting their value for both the local and family historian.

From the massive multi-volume Ireland's Memorial Records to long-forgotten parish histories, learn more about the "treasures" of our Research Library here.
