In March 2015 our Executive Director, Fintan Mullan, and our Research Officer, Gillian Hunt, travelled across North America giving 15 Irish and Scots-Irish family history workshops in 14 different locations, visiting 11 provinces/states in three weeks

Tour report by Gillian Hunt

Our tour began in Ottawa, Ontario where we spoke to over 250 people, our largest audience yet. The freezing temperatures of -10˚ Celsius (14˚ Fahrenheit) took a bit of getting used to, although our hosts thought it was warm compared to the temperatures they had had that winter!

We then travelled to: State College, PA; Staunton, VA; Williamsburg, VA; Winchester, VA; Maryville, TN; Boston, MA; Fairfield, CT; Pittsburgh, PA; Green Bay, WI; Moscow, ID; Yakima, WA; Oakland, CA; and Medford, OR.

Fortunately the weather did not prevent us from reaching any of our destinations, although a cancelled flight and then a delayed flight meant that we arrived into Boston at 3am for a workshop which began at 9am.

We thoroughly enjoyed helping people find their Irish and Scots-Irish ancestors as well as the hospitality and friendship we met at every stop. It was lovely to reconnect with friends and supporters across North America particularly those who had attended our conferences back in Ireland as well as those who were coming to our autumn 2015 events
