The Limavady and Roe Valley Reunion was organised by the Ulster Historical Foundation on behalf of Limavady Borough Council and held over six days in October 2012. We attracted participants from Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland, Canada and the United States, reuniting with some old friends and making new ones.

The twin themes of the Reunion were immigration and emigration and during the event participants had the opportunity to visit some of the most historic sites in the Limavady area, including Dungiven Priory, Dungiven Castle and Limavady Workhouse. Our keynote speaker was Professor Mary Wack of Washington State University who delivered four excellent talks on different aspects of the history of the Roe Valley. A visit to the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland was included so that delegates could have an opportunity to carry out research for themselves assisted by Foundation staff and researchers.

The Reunion was one of a number of projects the Foundation delivered for Limavady Borough Council in 2012. We carried out research and wrote the content for a genealogy website, focusing on the history of the area, the records available and the information they contain. In addition, we ran a number of family history workshops for residents and local businesses on how to start family history, as well as genealogy tourism and its potential for the Limavady area.
