Before 1858 the administration of testamentary papers was regulated by the Church of Ireland. Virtually all original wills probated prior to 1858 were destroyed in Dublin in 1922. However, there are over 13,000 abstracts, extracts and duplicate copies of original wills from before 1858 at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland. This database is based on the card index at PRONI.
