"My initial foray into genealogy began in 1997 when my mother told me that she felt like an orphan with little history and few roots. While she knew quite a bit about her mother, she knew nothing about her father, other than his name, Robert McBurney, and that he had died shortly after her birth in Dundee, Scotland, in 1925. She really was quite upset and so I volunteered to see what I could find on that new-fangled communications tool, the Internet. What at first seemed to be a simple promise was to have a major impact on my life."
