"This story was first told by my great-uncle, John Moore, to waiting reporters on the platform of Lisburn station at midnight on Sunday 9 May 1915. He was then a young man of 23 and had clearly been 'visibly shaken by the terrible ordeal he had undergone' two days earlier when shipwrecked on the Lusitania.

His sister Nettie, my grandmother, was with him but she did not speak; she simply collapsed in the arms of her favourite aunt."

This article tells the story of the author's great-uncle and grandmother, and their experiences on board the Lusitania when it was shipwrecked.
