"The records of Ulster's landed estates, held by the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI), are recognised as an important source for the study of local and family history.
The range of these records is considerable as they document the activities of the landed family in the 'big house' and the work of the estate office.
One area of landlord activity that has received relatively little attention is the operation of the manorial courts."
This article examines the operation of the manorial courts - four courts operated by the earls of Antrim in the north of the county, covering the manors of Ballycastle, Dunluce, Glenarm and Oldstone.
