Hugh Hanna was born on 25 February 1821 in Derry, a substantial townland of 630 acres in the parish of
Dromara, County Down. He was the eldest of probably seven children born to Peter Hanna and Ellen Finiston.
Peter was the son of John Hanna and Jane Orr.
