The Very Rev. Dr Andrew William Godfrey Brown graduated in Modern History at Queen’s University Belfast, studied for the ministry at the Presbyterian College, Belfast, and obtained his BD degree from London University. He was ordained in 1960 and served in Fitzroy Church, Belfast and Ballycastle, County Antrim. He was elected Moderator of the General Assembly in 1988. He retired in 2001 and has recently stepped back from being Joint-Secretary of the Presbyterian Historical Society of Ireland. He was awarded honorary degrees by the Presbyterian Theological Faculty, Ireland (DD) and Montreat College, North Carolina (LittD) and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
