Thomas Bartlett, M.R.I.A., is Professor of Modern Irish History at University College Dublin. He is the author of The fall and rise of the Irish nation: the Catholic question 1690-1830 (1992), and Theobald Wolfe Tone (1997); the joint-editor of several important volumes of essay, including A military history of Ireland (1996) and 1798: a bicentenary perspective (2003); and the editor of several important texts on the United Irish Movement including The Life of Theobald Wolfe Tone (1998) and most recently Revolutionary Dublin: the letters of Francis Higgins to Dublin Castle, 1795-1801 (2004).
